City buses in Boston are services by the MBTA, the primary transportation authority for Greater Boston. As a short-term visitor to see the sights in Boston, you'll find yourself walking or taking taxis, the subway or Commuter Rail trains to most of the places you want to go. Buses are less useful than rail transport for the major sights. The exception is the Silver Line buses, large articulated buses that run a route conceived as a substitute for constructing a much more expensive underground train line.
Taxi
Taxis tend to be an expensive option. Rates are determined by the meter, which calculates miles. Expect to pay about $10 to $15 between most tourist points within the city limits, without much traffic. It is harder to get a taxi in bad weather or during business hours.
